Do you know when to replace forklift tires?
2025-06-24

One common question among forklift users is determining the optimal time to replace tires. This is not an easy question to answer, as it depends on various factors such as tire type, machine type, operational conditions, and others. However, in this article, Raiso will discuss observable indicators that signal the need for tire replacement.

Solid tires feature a circular line beneath the tread and a raised line on the side, which marks the end of the tread's usable life. At this point, the TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) mark—a globally recognized standard—indicates the remaining service life of this type of tire. Tires also include TWI markings, which appear at a specific location on the side or under the tread. Once these markings become visible, the tire must be replaced immediately.

Tires should also be replaced under the following conditions:

- Cuts or cracks on the tread or sidewall causing symptoms such as "limping" or "tire bouncing."

- Cracking within the grooves, leading to similar symptoms.

- Signs of fatigue, including sidewall cracks or irregular tread wear, whether on the inner or outer side.

Note that damaged tires pose a significant threat to operator safety and may lead to accidents. In addition to equipment malfunctions, they must be replaced promptly.
